A scam over the phone -
A recent call came in from a client whose father had been the target of fraud the week after her mother had passed. The caller found information in the death notice about surviving family member names. They called just days after the funeral and claimed that his grandson was in jail after a car accident he had caused. They alleged that not only was the grandson in jail but was also incapicated and unable to call on his own behalf. The widower was directed to wire $2000 for medical legal care immediately. Fortunately, the father called our client in a panic about the emergency. She called her son and was relieved to hear that he was unharmed and that she could prevent her grieving parent from being defrauded.
An unexpected death -
A heart attack took our client's spouse away and overnight she was entirely at a loss. How would she find his will? He didn't provide her with access to many of the accounts both personal and business and it was going to be hard to alert his employees, partners and friends. Gaining access to his phone and laptop required forensic IT experience that she did not have available. We were glad to step in and get her started on the discovery process.
